Gates to Xibalba: psytrance gathering in Dale, Texas

Dale, United States Next Edition:

A three-day open-air psytrance gathering over Halloween and Día de Muertos at Cauldron's Keep in Dale, about 40 minutes from Austin. The third edition runs from 30 October to 1 November 2026.

Gates to Xibalba is the autumn gathering of Dimensional Mayan Tribe, a Texas collective whose motto is "Bringing the Best of Psytrance to Texas". The 2026 edition, subtitled "Dance of the Ancestors", is the third. The theme is Xibalba, the Mayan underworld, and the dates fall on Halloween and Día de Muertos. I like that timing: a weekend people already want to celebrate, with ceremony built into the programme. It's a small, local gathering, not a big production, and that's the expectation I'd travel with.

Location

The festival takes place at Cauldron's Keep in Dale, Caldwell County, roughly 40 minutes southeast of Austin. It's open air, with camping across all three days. Late October in Central Texas usually means warm days and cooler nights, so pack for both. The organisers ask everyone to leave no trace and take their rubbish home, and on private land like this I'd take that literally.

Music

Two stages: one for psytrance, the other for what the organisers call multigenre frequencies. The 2025 edition listed goa, full-on, progressive, darkpsy, forest, hi-tech and psycore, plus drum and bass, techno, house, psydub, ambient and chillout. For 2026 the listings I found name 26 artists, mostly from Texas and Mexico, among them Psytopus, Spiralmynd, Zymphonik Chaos and Luna Haze. Don't expect famous international headliners. Expect the regional scene in full.

Community

Dimensional Mayan Tribe runs gatherings through the year, which tells me there's a regular local crowd. In 2026 that included K'in Gathering in May near Spicewood and Ilumina in September in Smithville; in 2024 there was a summer gathering called Baaxal near La Grange. Workshops, ceremony and visionary vendors are part of Xibalba, and costumes are encouraged. If you come from abroad, you'll mostly meet Texans and people from across the border.

Travel

Fly into Austin-Bergstrom (AUS); from there it's a short drive to Dale. A car is the practical choice, and I found no shuttle. Arrive in daylight if you can, so you find your spot and pitch the tent before dark.

Tickets

Tickets for 2026 are sold through Ticket Tailor, linked from dimensionalmayantribe.com. The pages I opened didn't show prices, so I won't quote any. Check the ticket page for what's included before you book flights.
