Ace Ventura: the Israeli progressive psytrance DJ and producer
Who is Ace Ventura the DJ? Real name Yoni Oshrat, from Israel: his road from Psysex to progressive psytrance, his labels Iboga and Mutant Disco, projects, key releases and festivals.
How Adir Sahar went from music fan without formal training to Iboga Records and a Beatport number one with his debut album “A State of Mind”.
Few artists have made as strong an impact on psychedelic trance in recent years as DJ Antinomy, real name Adir Sahar. Since he entered the scene in 2017, his inventive approach and hypnotic tracks have helped shape the sound of psychedelic progressive. Much of what follows is based on his interview with IDM Magazine.
Antinomy had no formal musical training. What he did have was a love for many kinds of music, and above all for electronic music, from New York house to psychedelic Goa trance. That mix of influences shaped his own sound in psytrance.
His first big break came with the EP “Life Beyond Earth”, which was picked up by TechSafari Records. It marked the start of a fast rise in the psytrance world.
His debut in 2017 caught the attention of fans and scene veterans right away. His first releases, “Life Beyond Earth” and “Humans Evolution”, showed not only skill but a distinctive musical imagination that connected with listeners and fellow artists alike. Early support from big names such as Liquid Soul, Ace Ventura and Astrix was both pressure and motivation for him, and pushed him to keep exploring new musical territory.
His most important release so far is his debut album “A State of Mind”. It came out on Iboga Records and reached number one on Beatport. Seven of its eight tracks are solo productions, and it was made over three years, including the period when the COVID-19 pandemic had stopped festivals and public gatherings. Instead of holding him back, that time of isolation and uncertainty fed his creativity and led to an album that speaks to its listeners' emotions and states of mind.
Antinomy's rise rests not only on his music but also on his connection to major labels and artists. His partnership with Iboga Records, one of the biggest psytrance labels, opened new doors and gave his music a global platform. The support and trust of Yoni Oshrat (Ace Ventura) and Mikael Dahlgaard (DJ Emok) played a key part in his success.
With the world recovering from the pandemic and events starting again, Antinomy is ready to take his music further. His plans include shows at well-known festivals such as Hilltop in Goa, Boom in Portugal, Atmosphere in Mexico and Indian Spirit in Germany, among others. He has also hinted at new collaborations and surprises.
His story shows how far passion and persistence can take you: from a music fan without formal training to one of the respected names in the psytrance scene.
