The Psytrance DJ Genetrick

Micky G., known in psytrance as Genetrick, released his first productions under that name in 2012. Recognition came quickly, and his tracks have since appeared on labels such as Iboga Records, Hummega Recs and Tesseract Studio, as he told Markit Online.

His music blends progressive and full-on psytrance, with colourful melodies and powerful riffs. Variety matters to him, and his tracks range from progressive to full-on dance floor material. At the core of it all is one goal: music that moves people and makes them dance, as he explained in an interview with Trancentral.

One highlight of his career was his longest set, at the Seeds of Freedom festival in Portugal. He played the closing set for three hours and then carried on for another two at the afterparty. He describes it as a chance to connect with the crowd on a different level, and as an immensely enjoyable and memorable experience.

His adventurous side goes beyond music. For a year he lived on a container ship, travelling across the eastern hemisphere as a security officer protecting ships from pirates. For him it was part of a life as an adventurer: one of the most dangerous jobs there is, combined with the thrill of seeing many different countries.

His debut album "Starseed", released on Iboga Records, is something special. It is not just a collection of tracks but a concept album that tells a story, inspired by his love of albums that tell tales, such as Pink Floyd's "The Wall". The album builds an imaginative sci-fi world around a central character on a quest, tied to his passion for psychedelic music.

Genetrick started young, as lead guitarist in a rock and metal band. His path led him to psytrance through the progressive trance scene that was emerging in northern Israel. The energy and creativity of those outdoor parties fed his passion and eventually led to Genetrick. His first EP brought him his first international gig, in Switzerland, an important milestone in his career.

Looking ahead, he wants to keep developing and to collaborate with artists from different psychedelic styles. He is working on a compilation with artists he admires and is open to new projects, including one with faster BPMs and another with slower beats for live shows.

From a metal band to the closing set of a Portuguese festival, Genetrick's story is one of passion, variety and constant change, and he keeps pushing his music further.
