Scion of Mars
Martin from Bonn, alias Scion of Mars, on his first live act in an old brickworks, his wide musical influences and his message for the planet.
Vocalist and producer Ankit Sharda from Raipur, India, on his hit with Omiki, what he loves about psytrance culture and the tools he uses.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you born and where do you live? What is the name of your project(s), and why and how did you start?
I was born and brought up in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India, and I still live in Raipur. I studied mechanical and automotive design engineering, but I'm a musician at heart. Omiki approached me on Facebook about one of my vocals, and as a result our song Krishna was released and became a big hit. Since then several artists have approached me for collaborations.
What fascinates you about psytrance culture?
For me, psytrance is pure love. Everything about psytrance is fascinating, whether it's the bassline, the music, the food, the chai stalls or the people from different countries.
What are your musical influences?
No one in particular. I believe we can learn from everyone, which is why I always look for ways to learn from different artists.
As artists we have a responsibility towards our audience. What is the key message you want to pass on to your listeners?
Keep psytrance pure. Stay away from drugs. Enjoy the music and the atmosphere. When you get deep into the music, you'll find you don't need anything else for a trip. The music will take you places.
If you could start over again, what would you do differently?
I'm already working on a lot of projects. This time I'm making both the vocals and the music for the singles myself.
Please name one piece of your production gear you like and tell us why.
I like Mixed In Key a lot because of its tempo and key detection. It also gives you cue points, which is very useful when preparing a DJ set. I also like the Samson C01U Pro.
