Tribal Gathering: 18-day beach and jungle festival in Panama

Let's be clear about what this is: Tribal Gathering is not a psytrance festival with a bit of culture on the side. Its 18 days start as an indigenous immersion and only then turn into a dance festival. More than 150 indigenous participants come from about 40 tribes and 30 countries. In 2026 the money raised went to a permanent children's dining hall in the Comarca Valle Ñopo. If you want a straight week of psy like Ozora, this is the wrong ticket. If you're curious about the rest, I think the format is the whole point.

The site is Hippie Beach, also known as Playa Chiquita, near Santa Isabel on the Costa Arriba of Colón, Panama's Caribbean side. Beach and jungle on the same site. The nearest big city is Panama City. A 2018 review described bamboo showers, bathing in a creek and no phone signal. For me that last detail is the honest filter: if days without signal sound stressful rather than appealing, take it seriously.

There are five stages, and psytrance has its own: the Lotus Stage, which runs mainly in the second week. Across the programme you'll find progressive, forest, hi-tech, goa and darkpsy, plus techno, house and world music. That's a wide spread, and I like that the festival doesn't pretend to be one thing. If psy is your only reason to fly to Panama, plan around the second week and check the official site for what's on when. A beach, a jungle and a long night on the floor — that's all it really takes.

This is a small festival: a 2018 review estimated between 1,000 and 1,500 people, so treat that as a rough figure. The crowd is international, and families are welcome, kids included. There are workshops, a healing area and a market. Compared with Universo Paralello, the beach festival most Brazilians know, this sounds less like a party city and more like a long camp where you keep running into the same faces.

Getting there is the hard part. The site is remote; there is a shuttle, and public transport is also an option. Panama City is your starting point, and current shuttle details are on the official site. Everyone camps, right on the beach or in the jungle; camping is included, and there's glamping if you want more comfort. My advice: don't plan a tight connection on arrival day.

Ticket information for 2027 is on the official website. When I checked, prices weren't published yet, so I won't give you a number. On price, the festival sits in the mid-range, with camping included. Before you buy, check exactly which days your ticket covers — with 18 days, it matters.
