Spirit Rio: psytrance party series in Rio de Janeiro
A Rio de Janeiro psytrance party brand running since 2012, best known for its yearly two-day anniversary open air in August or September. No next dates have been announced.
I've been to Spirit myself, and I want to be honest about what it is: not a festival in the Ozora sense, but a Rio party brand with one big birthday a year. It has been running since 2012 — the September 2025 edition was billed as “13 anos”, 13 years — and the anniversary is the edition that feels like a festival: two days, open air, a long line-up. In between, Spirit throws one-off parties, like “Spirit com Hi Profile” in May 2026. If you're in Rio in August or September, the anniversary is the one I'd aim for.
Location
The anniversary editions have been listed at Sítio das Pedras and at the Hode Lua Resort in Ilha de Guaratiba, on Rio's rural western edge — sources don't make clear whether that's the same site. The May 2026 party was in Taquara, also within the city. So the venue can change, and I'd confirm it for every edition. August and September are late winter in Rio, southern hemisphere. Flying in, the international airport is Galeão (GIG).

Music
The core is full-on and progressive. One detail tells you a lot about the format: the 2025 anniversary was promoted with its first 100% psytrance stage, which suggests earlier editions mixed genres. The 2024 edition, over two days at the Hode Lua Resort, was headlined by Captain Hook, Chemical Noise and Dantra — serious names for a party series. For me that's the strength of Spirit: big full-on energy close to the city, nothing needed but the floor and a long night.
Community
Spirit is mainly a local affair: most of the crowd comes from Rio and around. That's exactly why I like these city-edge events — it's a different thing from a destination festival like Universo Paralello: you come for the party, not for a week away. If you're visiting from abroad, go with someone from Rio, and a few words of Portuguese help. Attendance, number of stages and camping aren't published in any source I could verify.
Travel
A car is the recommended way to reach Guaratiba from other parts of Rio. Arriving from abroad, you land at Galeão (GIG). Because the venue has moved between editions, check the address on the official Facebook page before you plan your route — Taquara and Ilha de Guaratiba are both in Rio, but they are not the same place.
Tickets
There's no current ticket sale, because no next edition has been announced. According to a reseller listing, the 2025 anniversary was sold through Ingresse; prices weren't visible in the sources I checked. My advice: keep an eye on the official Facebook page (facebook.com/spiritrio) and buy early once a date is out, if the line-up convinces you.
