Mo:Dem Festival: underground psytrance week in Primišlje, Croatia
Mo:Dem, short for Momento Demento, is a seven-day psytrance festival in the woods near Primišlje in central Croatia. The 2027 edition runs from 2 to 8 August 2027.
I haven't been to Mo:Dem, but from everything I've read, it sits at the opposite end of the scale from the big commercial August festivals. Seven full days of music, an underground profile, a strong art side and a crowd described as international and experienced. In December 2024 it won the public-vote Ambassador Award as the best festival by a Croatian promoter, so its own country clearly takes it seriously. If Indian Spirit is the big, polished option in August, Mo:Dem looks like the one for people who already know what they're getting into.
Location
The festival takes place in woods near the village of Primišlje, in Karlovac County (Kordun), between Slunj and Ogulin. The Mrežnica river runs close by and you can swim in it — in early August, that's not a small detail. Zagreb is the nearest big city. Camping is included, and there's tent rental and glamping if you'd rather not haul your whole setup.

Music
The main stage is The Hive; The Swamp carries downtempo, ambient and deep techno. Time Out describes the sound as dark psychedelic trance, and listings point towards forest, darkpsy and hi-tech — but I'd confirm that with an actual line-up before booking. If your comfort zone is full-on or progressive, this is probably the wrong week. If you like it dark, it's the right one.
Community
Everything I read points to a seasoned crowd from many countries, with yoga, workshops, art installations and a chill-out area alongside the floors. Seven days in the forest with river swimming isn't a weekend rave; it rewards people who like to settle in and let the forest and the music carry them. I'd say Mo:Dem suits you best once you have a few festivals behind you.
Travel
A car is the recommended way in. The site is rural and forested, so check the exact location on the official site before you set off. Flying in, Zagreb is where I'd start looking. Getting there is doable, but it takes some planning.
Tickets
The 2027 dates are out; for current availability and prices, go to the official website. One rule matters: tickets are personalised and non-transferable, and entry is refused if the name doesn't match. So no buying a spare for a friend and sorting out names later. I couldn't find a verified price, so I won't guess one.
