Heaven on Earth DarkPsy: darkpsy open air near Grass Valley, California

Heaven on Earth is the West Coast's darkpsy festival: a collective that has been running open airs in Northern California since 2017, focused on what it calls the darker spectrum of psychedelic trance. The latest edition, "Spiritual Alchemy", took place on 22–24 May 2026. I count four editions since June 2024, so this crew is clearly active. If you prefer the night side of psytrance to sunny progressive, this is the US festival I'd look at first.

The organisers only say Northern California and send directions to ticket holders a day or two before. Festival guides from 2022 and 2024 placed it near Grass Valley in the Sierra Nevada foothills, but I couldn't confirm the current site, so treat that as a pointer, not an address. What the official page does confirm: wilderness, shaded campsites, camping next to your car, full bathrooms, hot showers and a water tap. There is no ATM and no phone signal. Days are hot and nights get cold.

Darkpsy is the core. The June 2025 line-up included Konebu, Insane Creatures, Mubali, Khromata, Paradigm, Ghost Noize and Psilovybe; the May 2026 page listed aUDIOdIDAKT, Doktor Dargon, fORRESTA, Razing Prophet and others. In 2026 the music ran from 6 pm on Friday to 7 pm on Sunday. Stage details aren't published, so I won't guess.

It's run by a collective, and the format is intimate compared with the big European darkpsy festivals. DoubleBlind magazine called it an up-and-coming West Coast festival in 2024. There's a Facebook group where people organise carpools, which matters because public transport doesn't reach the site. Food vendors and a vendor market are on site.

Fly into Sacramento (SMF), San Francisco (SFO) or Oakland (OAK); the organisers put the drive at two to three hours. There's no bus or train, so you need a rental car or a carpool. Bring cash for the food and the market, plus your own tent and shade. Open fires are not allowed.

Tickets are sold on the festival's own website. For the next edition it lists an early bird at $150, available until 15 November 2026, plus group packs and parking passes: $22 for a car, $42 for a van and $62 for an RV. The banner already shows 22–24 May 2027, but that date would start on a Saturday and the event page still describes 2026. I'd wait for a confirmed announcement before booking flights.
